Food-grade packaging & certifications

Vella sources food-grade glass and plastic packaging with LFGB, SGS and FDA food-contact test reports, from vetted partner factories operating to ISO 22716 / GMP. Glass and food-grade PP are inert and food-safe, so they suit supplement capsules, powder, and cosmetics — and any exterior colour coating stays on the outside, never touching the contents. We arrange the certificate set for your specific jar, bottle and closure before production.

The certifications

Which certificate
means what.

Buyers ask for a lot of acronyms. Here is what each one actually covers, so you request the right set for your market.

Which materials are food-safe

Inside matters,
not the colour outside.

Glass is inert and food-safe by nature, which makes it the safest choice for supplements, powder and capsules. Food-grade PP is the food-safe plastic option for lids, liners and jars. The key point for coloured or matte packaging: the colour is a coating on the exterior only — the certified food-safe glass or PP interior is what contacts the product, so a matte black supplement jar is fully food-safe inside while looking premium outside.

How we handle certification

Certificates matched to
your exact packaging.

A certificate only counts if it's for the specific material and part you're buying. We tie the paperwork to your actual jar, bottle and closure.

01

Confirm the contact material

We identify exactly what touches your product — the glass, the food-grade PP liner, the seal — and confirm each contact material is certifiable for food/supplement use.

02

Arrange the right test set

Based on your market (EU, US, other) we arrange LFGB, FDA food-contact and SGS reports for that material — not a generic certificate for a different product.

03

Verify exterior-only coating

For matte or coloured packaging, we confirm the coating stays on the exterior and never enters the fill zone, so the food-contact certification holds.

04

QC & document before shipment

Partner factories operate to ISO 22716 / GMP; we QC every order and hand over the certificate set with the shipment, so your compliance file is complete.

Questions

Frequently asked about food-grade packaging.

What certifications should cosmetic and supplement packaging have?
For food or supplement contact, ask for LFGB (the key EU food-contact standard), FDA food-contact compliance and SGS test reports for the specific material. For the manufacturing side, ISO 22716 (cosmetics GMP) and ISO 9001 show quality-system control, and REACH covers EU chemical compliance. Glass and food-grade PP are inert and food-safe by nature.
Food-grade certified packaging
Is LFGB or FDA better for the EU market?
LFGB is the German/EU food-contact standard and is generally the stricter, more relevant one for selling into the EU; FDA food-contact compliance is the equivalent for the US. They are not interchangeable — we can arrange both test reports for the same packaging so you are covered in either region.
Is a matte black or coloured coating still food-safe?
Yes, when the coating is applied to the exterior only. The glass or food-grade plastic interior contacts the contents and is certified food-safe, while the colour spray stays on the outside and never touches the product — ideal for a supplement capsule jar or powder jar that needs to look premium and stay compliant.

Does Vella provide the actual test certificates?
Yes. We arrange the LFGB, SGS and FDA food-contact test reports for the specific jar, bottle and closure you choose, and confirm the certificate set before production. Partner factories operate to ISO 22716 / GMP and we QC every order before shipment, handing over the documentation with the goods.
