Why Jars

The lid-open experience
is part of the product.

The moment a consumer opens a jar is a sensory brand moment — the weight of the lid, the seal release, the first impression of the formula. Double-wall jars create a weighted, premium hand-feel that single-wall can't replicate. We help you spec the jar, the lid material and the inner cup together as one coordinated experience.

Sourcing Intelligence

Three jar checks most brands skip until it's too late.

A jar that looks perfect in a sample photo can fail in ways that only show at production scale — lid fit, seal integrity, inner coating compatibility. Vella tests all three before production approval.

01

Lid Torque & Seal

We measure opening torque on 20 samples (consumer target: 1–2 Nm). Over-tight lids damage the brand experience; under-tight lids risk accidental opening in transit. Seal quality is tested with an inversion drop test.

02

Inner Coating Compatibility

Acrylic and PP can react with certain actives over time. Any formula containing vitamin C, AHAs, retinol or high-concentration botanicals requires an inner lacquer coat or PP insert, which we verify during sample stage.

03

Decoration Registration

Screen-print and hot stamp must register accurately across the curved or flat surface of the jar body. We check all 4 edges of the print area for consistency before production approval — bleed, position and colour match.

04

Double-wall Gap Uniformity

In double-wall jars, the gap between inner and outer walls must be even all around. Uneven gaps show as visual distortion and feel cheap. We measure 10 samples per batch for gap uniformity before release.

Questions

Frequently asked about cosmetic jars.

What is the difference between acrylic and glass jars for face cream?
Acrylic jars have a glass-like premium look at lower cost and lighter weight — ideal for travel-friendly or e-commerce brands. Glass jars are fully inert, recyclable and signal maximum luxury, but add weight and breakage risk. For face creams and body butters at mid-to-premium price points, acrylic is the most common choice. Glass suits ultra-premium positioning.

Do cosmetic jars need an inner liner for formulas with actives?
Yes — if your formula contains vitamin C, retinol, AHAs or any ingredient that can react with acrylic or PP over time, an inner lacquer liner or a separate PP inner cup is strongly recommended. We spec the appropriate inner protection based on your formula brief.

What jar size is right for my face moisturiser?
50 ml is the standard for a face moisturiser — enough for 4–6 weeks at 1–2 pumps per application. For targeted treatments (eye creams, spot treatments), 15–30 ml is standard. For body butters and masks, 200–500 ml. We often recommend sticking to one jar shape across SKUs to create range cohesion.
Can I get a double-wall jar at low MOQ?
Yes. Stock double-wall jar shapes are available from 500 units with custom decoration. Custom double-wall shapes with new tooling require 3,000 units minimum and a mould fee. Double-wall is particularly valued for premium face creams where the weighted feel and lid-open experience matter.

Can the jar and lid be different colours?
Absolutely — and this is a common brand differentiation technique. White body with rose gold lid, black body with clear lid, frosted body with chrome lid. We spec jar and lid colours independently and confirm colour accuracy before production approval.
