A 30 ml stock glass dropper bottle from China starts at about 500 pieces undecorated via partner factories already tooled for small runs (bottle ~500, dropper assembly ~500 in stock colours), about 2,000 with a screen-printed logo, and 2,000–5,000 per shape with a sprayed colour, frosting or an anodised collar. A glass bottle in your own shape is made-to-order glass with an industry-floor MOQ of 30,000 to 100,000–200,000 pieces, even though the mould itself is only about RMB 4,000 (≈ USD 555) per cavity. Lead time: 7–10 days from stock, 30–60 days if a glass run is needed, +5–7 days for print, 30–40 days for spray.
Why the dropper bottle is the low-MOQ format
A 30 ml dropper bottle is two components: a narrow-neck glass bottle on an 18/400 or 20/400 finish, and a dropper assembly of cap, collar, glass pipette and bulb. Both exist as stock items on public moulds held by partner factories, in high-flint clear, amber and frosted, with collars in black, white, gold and silver. That is why the undecorated floor sits at about 500 pieces per component, against the 5,000–10,000 per item that most suppliers publish for made-to-order work on the MOQ index.
Everything above 500 is a decision to change the appearance. Each decoration step is a machine set-up that has to happen for your order alone, and the size of that set-up is the floor. Printing is cheap and colour is expensive: that one sentence explains the whole table below.
The four routes for a 30 ml dropper
| Route | Indicative minimum | Tooling | Factory-gate lead time |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 · Stock glass, undecorated + stock dropper | ~500 pcs per component (bottle ~500 in stock; dropper ~500 in stock colours); low thousands if a public-mould run is needed | None | 7–10 days in stock; 30–60 days if a glass run is required |
| 2 · Stock glass + screen print / hot stamp | ~2,000 pcs (the decorating line sets it, not the artwork) | Screen or foil plate — trivial; ≈ USD 0.014 per print colour, ≈ USD 0.055 per hot-stamp design | Stock cycle + 5–7 days |
| 3a · Stock glass + frosting (acid etch) | Typical partner-factory range 2,000–5,000 per shape; frosted stock shapes from ~1,000 | None (finishing pass) | Inside the 30–60 day glass window |
| 3b · Stock glass + sprayed colour | 2,000–5,000 pcs per shape; ≈ USD 0.07–0.15 per bottle | Colour-matching set-up | 30–40 days; forming and decoration are usually two factories |
| 3c · Dropper with sprayed or anodised collar | 2,000–5,000 pcs; electroplated collar ~10,000 | Stock tooling; a private pipette or collar shape is rarely worth it | 7–25 days; anodised aluminium 25–40 days in parallel |
| 4 · Made-to-order glass, your own shape | 30,000 to 100,000–200,000 pcs (industry floor); 3,000–5,000 on a short-run glassworks line where one exists | Automatic IS mould ≈ RMB 4,000 ≈ USD 555 per cavity; 4–8 cavity set RMB 16,000–32,000 ≈ USD 2,200–4,450; hand mould ≈ RMB 2,500 ≈ USD 350 | Mould 45–60 days, then 30–60 days from mould approval |
Read the table per component. A quote of "MOQ 1,000" on a dropper bottle may mean 1,000 bottles from a glass plant and 3,000 collars from a closure plant, and the higher figure governs the assembled set. Ask which minimum applies to the bottle, the collar, the pipette and the bulb, and whether they ship assembled.
Route 1 and 2: where an indie launch should start
A 30 ml high-flint or amber stock bottle with a stock black or white dropper, screen-printed in one colour, is the reference launch configuration: about 2,000 pieces, stock cycle plus 5–7 days, and a decoration cost of roughly USD 0.014 per print colour. Hot stamping a logo adds about USD 0.055 per design; keep print plus stamp to no more than two passes in total, because each pass adds rejects. If 2,000 is still too many, a full-wrap label on the stock bottle carries the colour instead and runs from about 100–500 pieces on a digital press. Amber needs no decoration step at all to protect a light-sensitive serum: it is coloured through the melt and blocks UV below about 450 nm. Choosing between amber, frosted and clear is covered in frosted vs amber vs clear glass for a serum bottle.
Route 3: the 2,000–5,000 band and what it buys
Sprayed colour is a spray line set up, run and cleaned down for your tone alone, at RMB 0.5–1.1 (≈ USD 0.07–0.15) per bottle; different shapes cannot be hung and sprayed together, so the 2,000–5,000 applies per shape. Frosting is an acid-etch pass on finished glass with its own bright-spot limits (none on the front face, ≤5 of ≤0.8 mm on the sides) and the frost must stop below the thread root. An anodised aluminium collar is batch-dyed, HV300 standard film, and a second batch rarely matches the first without a control sample, so buy the full range's collars in one lot. None of the three is worth it if the first order is 1,000 pieces and the colour could live on a label. The cost per process is on the decoration process comparison.
Route 4: when your own shape makes sense
The mould is cheap. An automatic IS-machine mould is about RMB 4,000 (≈ USD 555) per cavity, a 4–8 cavity set RMB 16,000–32,000 (≈ USD 2,200–4,450), a hand mould about RMB 2,500 (≈ USD 350). The gate is the run: a furnace does not stop, so made-to-order glass carries an industry-floor MOQ of 30,000 to 100,000–200,000 pieces and 30–60 days from mould approval, with larger runs giving more stable quality as the machine settles. A few short-run glassworks lines quote 3,000–5,000; treat those as the exception. The full economics are in custom glass bottle mould cost and MOQ and on the glass bottle specifications reference.
Lead time, from stock to warehouse
| Configuration | Factory gate (quoted) | Committed (× 1.3) | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stock amber + stock dropper, undecorated | 7–10 days | 10–13 days | Both components in the warehouse; sampling 7–10 days first |
| Stock glass + 1-colour print, 2,000 pcs | Stock 10 + print 6 = 16 days | ≈ 21 days | +15 days if the order touches Chinese New Year |
| Stock glass + sprayed colour, 3,000 pcs | 30–40 days | 39–52 days | Two factories: forming, then decoration; two quality gates |
| Stock glass requiring a public-mould run | 30–60 days | 39–78 days | Furnace campaign schedule; colour change planned weeks ahead |
| Made-to-order glass, own shape | Mould 45–60 + run 30–60 days | ≈ 100–155 days | Plan launch 5–6 months from brief |
| Then transit | Sea 18–25 days US West Coast; 30–35 Northern Europe; 20–25 Australia | +5–10 days clearance each end | Glass ships in suspended trays; breakage allowance agreed up front |

What the minimum should come with
A low number is only useful if the set works. Before committing any of the four routes, the assembled bottle and dropper should pass the 45 °C / 24 h inverted seal hold with weight loss ≤0.5%, the −0.06 MPa vacuum leak (−0.08 MPa for 15 minutes on alcohol or volatile bulks), opening torque of 0.2–0.7 N·m, and the 48 °C / 30-day bulb soak in your actual formula with no swelling, hardening or drop-volume drift; glass defects are counted per face under 500–550 lux. Those thresholds are on our QC standards page, and what to ask a supplier before the deposit is in how to evaluate a China packaging supplier. Formats, glass grades and drop sizes are on the dropper bottles page; the serum-oil-cream range planned together is on skincare packaging solutions.
