PCR: the workhorse — and how to verify it

PCR is the most common eco route because it drops into existing formats with little design change. PET bottles can reach 100% PCR while keeping clarity and strength. The catch is verification: "eco-friendly" on a website means nothing on its own. Ask for two things every time:

  • The PCR percentage — 30%, 50%, 100% — stated for the specific component.
  • Supporting certification — GRS (Global Recycled Standard) or equivalent, with documentation you can verify.

Also budget for compatibility testing. Recycled resins can behave differently with certain actives, so sample with your real formula before scaling.
