Why Glass for Fragrance

The flacon is the first
statement your scent makes.

Fragrance is the most emotion-driven category in beauty — and the bottle carries that emotion before the cap even comes off. Clarity, weight, proportion and the cold touch of glass all communicate before the fragrance does. We help brands spec the flacon shape, glass type, cap material and decoration as a complete sensory system, not a set of separate components.

Sourcing Intelligence

Fragrance glass requires checks most packaging categories don't.

Fragrance bottles face category-specific quality risks: lead-free compliance, atomiser fit, and alcohol compatibility. Get any of these wrong and you have a recall or a failed spray mechanism.

01

Lead-free Certification

We require a factory-supplied lead-free glass certificate backed by ICP-OES spectrometry test for every fragrance glass order. This is required for EU, US and most global market compliance.

02

Atomiser Crimp Seal

The crimped atomiser must create a gas-tight seal that holds under pressure (fragrance vapour can build up in warm storage). We test 20 samples under 40°C for 48 hours — any leak around the crimp seat fails.

03

Alcohol Compatibility

High-percentage ethanol (90%+) in fine fragrance can affect certain rubber gaskets in the atomiser valve. We spec food-grade nitrile or EPDM gaskets as standard and test compatibility with the actual alcohol concentration.

04

Cap Magnetic/Press Fit Test

Heavy zinc alloy caps must engage and release cleanly — neither too tight (cap won't come off) nor too loose (falls off in transit). We test 50 open/close cycles with measured force gauges before production approval.

Questions

Frequently asked about fragrance bottles.

What glass is used for fragrance bottles and why must it be lead-free?
Fragrance bottles use soda-lime glass as standard. Lead-free certification is required because traditional crystal glass used lead oxide to achieve brilliance — now replaced with barium oxide or zinc oxide alternatives that meet EU and US food-contact standards. We require lead-free glass certification for all fragrance orders.

What is the difference between FEA15 and FEA20 atomisers?
FEA (Fragrance & Essence Association) standard sizes define the neck diameter the atomiser crimp fits onto. FEA15 is the standard for small flacons (up to 30 ml); FEA20 is standard for 50 ml and above. Getting these wrong means your atomiser won't fit your bottle — we spec both together as a matched pair.

Can I get a custom-shaped fragrance bottle?
Yes — custom-shaped fragrance glass is one of the most requested items in the fragrance category. Custom shapes require a one-time mould development investment and a minimum of 5,000 units per run. Timeline is 90–110 days including 3 sample rounds. We manage the mould process from concept drawing to production approval.
What cap material gives the most premium feel?
Zinc alloy caps are the luxury standard — they're heavy, cold to the touch, and can be plated in gold, silver or rose gold. ABS caps are lighter and more affordable, available in any colour. Wooden caps position as natural/artisanal. The cap weight relative to the bottle weight affects how the fragrance feels in hand — we recommend zinc alloy for any product priced above $50 retail.

What decoration is best for a luxury fragrance bottle?
Acid-etch frosting on a clear glass flacon is the classic prestige technique — it creates a satin surface that catches light subtly and feels expensive. Hot stamp on the glass or cap adds metallic brand identity. Silk-screen printing is standard; UV printing allows photographic quality on glass. The combination of frosted glass + gold hot stamp + zinc alloy cap is the benchmark luxury format.
