Lip gloss tube and wand MOQ from China:
stock, decorated and private mould.

A lip gloss pack looks like one part and is five: tube, cap, wand stem, applicator and wiper, often from two or three factories. Each has its own minimum, and the decoration you choose moves the number more than the tube does. Here are the floors by route, what drives them, and how to launch a gloss at a thousand pieces without cutting steel.

Short answer

A custom-decorated stock lip gloss tube starts around 1,000 pieces via partner factories; an undecorated stock tube from ~500–1,000; moulded-in custom colour around 3,000 (5,000–10,000 industry floor); sprayed colour 2,000–5,000 per component shape; and electroplating around 10,000, a floor that does not move. A private mould needs 3,000–10,000 pieces to amortise RMB 25,000–70,000 (≈USD 3,500–9,700) per component tool, paid 30/40/30, inside a 90–120 day programme. Stock tube with decoration ships in about 30–45 days at factory gate.

Five parts, five minimums

Before the numbers, the anatomy. A gloss tube is a tube in PP, PETG or AS (3.5–15 ml, 4.5 ml typical), a cap in ABS or PP, a wand stem in PP, an applicator — doe-foot, flat, plumping, cushion or brush — and a wiper in LDPE or TPE whose bore is set to the wand stem. The tube and cap are usually moulded by one factory, the wand and applicator by a flocking or applicator specialist, the wiper sometimes by a third. A published minimum applies to each part. That matters twice: it explains why a quote for "1,000 gloss tubes" can hide a 3,000-piece applicator, and it is why the applicator is approved with the formula — fibre density changes how a gloss deposits on the lip. Specification detail is on lip packaging.

MOQ by route

Indicative floors reached via partner factories already tooled for small runs; the published industry floor for colour cosmetics components is 5,000–10,000 pieces per item. The buffered column is the number to plan against.

Two lines deserve a note. Moulded-in colour looks cheap on paper — no spray line — but the factory has to purge the machine and run your masterbatch, so the industry floor is 5,000–10,000 and the ~3,000 figure exists only where a partner factory already runs that resin and colour. Electroplating sits at about 10,000 because the plating line is configured for your tone alone; below that, most factories stock plated caps in a handful of standard finishes only. The cross-category picture is on the MOQ index.

The rule that follows: printing is cheap, colour is expensive, metal is expensive and immovable. A clear PETG tube with a black or white stock cap, screen-printed in one colour, launches at around 1,000. A tube in your Pantone with a metallised cap needs 10,000 of the cap whatever the tube does. Process parameters are on the decoration process reference.

Where lead time goes on a decorated gloss

A stock mechanism or tube with decoration ships in about 30–45 days at factory gate. The tube itself is quick — 7–25 days from stock — but decoration is usually outsourced to a sub-contractor with its own queue (5–20 days), the wand and applicator arrive from another line and pass incoming inspection, and the set is assembled and inspected before packing. Multiply by 1.3 for buffer, add 15 days across Chinese New Year, then add freight: typically 18–25 days by sea to the US West Coast, 30–35 to Northern Europe. The ten-node breakdown is on the production calendar and the category cycles on the lead-time index.

What to check before you sign the golden sample

  • Cap torque and security — opening torque 0.2–0.7 N·m; the cap stays closed under a 1 kg bag compression; 50 open/close cycles with no product on the thread.
  • Wiper fit — the wiper bore set to the wand stem controls the load on the applicator; too loose drips, too tight strips the wand.
  • Formula compatibility — tube, wiper, wand and applicator held in your actual bulk at 48°C for 30 days plus ambient and cold controls; no discolouration, swelling, odour or dose drift.
  • Decoration adhesion — 3M 600 tape over print and hot stamp, 3M 810 over a 2 mm cross-hatch on spray and plating; no lift.
  • Colour — against the signed golden sample under D65 light, ΔE within the agreed tolerance; tube, cap and carton judged side by side.

Where Vella fits

Vella is a Guangzhou-based beauty packaging solutions provider — a sourcing partner, not a factory. For lip gloss we route tube, cap, wand, applicator and wiper to vetted partner factories in the Shantou and Yuyao–Shangyu colour-cosmetics clusters operating to ISO 22716 / GMP, quote the minimum per part, and approve the applicator with your formula before production. Common questions

What is the MOQ for lip gloss tubes from China?
A custom-decorated stock lip gloss tube starts around 1,000 pieces via partner factories already tooled for small runs; an undecorated stock tube from about 500–1,000. Moulded-in custom colour is around 3,000 where a partner factory already runs the resin, against a 5,000–10,000 industry floor; sprayed custom colour runs 2,000–5,000 per component shape; electroplated caps sit at about 10,000. The minimum applies per part — tube, cap, wand, applicator and wiper each have one.
How much does a private lip gloss tube mould cost?
A plastic injection tool for a cosmetic component runs about RMB 25,000–70,000 (approximately USD 3,500–9,700) per component, with a worked mid-size single-component tool at about RMB 76,500 (approximately USD 10,600). It is paid 30/40/30, rated for about 800,000 cycles, owned by the brand and held in custody by the factory. A tube and a cap are two tools. Amortising them needs 3,000–10,000 pieces, so most launches use stock moulds and decorate.
Why does electroplating on a lip gloss cap need 10,000 pieces?
Because the plating line is configured for your tone alone, and the set-up cost only pays back at that volume. It is the one floor that does not move between suppliers. Below 10,000 most factories stock plated caps only in a few standard finishes. Vacuum metallising has a similar set-up-driven minimum. Plated parts are exterior only and must never contact the formula.
How long does a decorated lip gloss tube take to produce?
About 30–45 days at factory gate for a stock tube with decoration: the tube itself is 7–25 days, screen print or hot stamp adds 5–7 days, sprayed colour 30–40 days after sample approval, and the wand, applicator and wiper arrive from separate lines. Multiply by 1.3 for buffer, add 15 days across Chinese New Year, then add 18–35 days sea freight or 3–7 days air.
Is the applicator included in the tube MOQ?
Usually not. The doe-foot, flat, plumping, cushion or brush applicator and the wiper come from specialist lines with their own minimums, which is how a quote for 1,000 tubes can hide a 3,000-piece applicator. Ask for the number per part, and approve the applicator with your actual formula, because fibre density changes how a gloss deposits on the lip.
